Torben Hansen

Torben Hansen, clarinet

A Cleveland, Ohio native, Torben Hansen began his studies on clarinet at the age of 10 in the public school’s band program. He continued his music studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, University of Mount Union, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, and the New England Conservatory of Music, where he received his master of music degree in performance. His teachers have included Theodore Johnson, Robert Marcellus, and Peter Hadcock.

Mr. Hansen has performed Carl Maria von Weber’s Concertino and Clarinet Concert No. 2 with the Mount Union Wind Ensemble and Orchestra, and has soloed with the Chamber Orchestra of Cape Ann, the Tri-Town Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan Wind Symphony. Mr. Hansen has held the position of principal clarinet with the Brockton Symphony for 40 years, and also performs regularly with the Quincy Symphony and the Metropolitan Wind Symphony.

He is presently retired from the Braintree Public Schools where he taught music and wood shop for 35 years.

Mr. Hansen performs on a Bachun clarinet with a Richard Hawkins mouthpiece.

Outside of music, Mr. Hansen enjoys traveling with his wife Leslie, fly-fishing in Maine, building furniture in his wood shop and photographing wildlife.
