Jean Danton

Soprano, Jean Danton has performed throughout the United States and Europe on the opera, oratorio, musical theatre and concert stage. She has been a soloist with the Handel and Haydn Society under Christopher Hogwood and John Finney, Oregon Bach Festival with Helmuth Rilling, Boston Baroque with Martin Pearlman and the Boston Pops Orchestra with Keith Lockhart and Bruce Hangen. Ms. Danton's festival appearances include concerts with Carmel Bach Festival, Winter Park Bach Festival, Breckenridge Music Festival, N.Y. Bach Aria Festival and Associazione Culturale - Storici Organi del Piemonte in Italy for which she is invited back for the 2011 season. Ms. Danton made her Carnegie Hall debut with the Masterwork Chorus and her Lincoln Center debut at Avery Fisher Hall with the National Chorale, in both instances performing Handel's Messiah. Her numerous concert appearances include the Baltimore Choral Arts Society, Nashua Symphony Orchestra, North Shore Philharmonic, Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra, Boston Camerata, Masterworks Chorale, Providence Singers and the North Carolina Symphony.

Ms. Danton's operatic performances include roles with Boston Baroque, Greater Buffalo Opera, Cambridge Opera, Brown Bag Opera and Cambridge Community Chorus. Her roles range from Dido in Dido and Aeneas to Polly in Weill's The Threepenny Opera (Craig Smith and the American Repertory Theatre) and Quiteria in the U.S. premiere of Don Quixote (Harry Ellis Dickson and the Boston Classical Orchestra). She has appeared with Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Opera Theatre and the Boston Early Music Festival. She is often a soloist for Pops concerts and musical theatre appearing with the Boston Pops Orchestra, North Shore Music Theatre, American Classics, Hillyer Festival Orchestra, New England Light Opera and the Brockton Symphony. Her versatility also extends to jazz including a concert of Paul Whiteman jazz with Bruce Hangen and the Orchestra at Indian Hill and jazz concerts at the historic Mishler Theatre in Altoona, PA with the Ed Broms Quartet.

An acclaimed recitalist, Ms. Danton has performed on the N.Y. Trinity Church Concert Series in N.Y.C. and the Twentieth Century Music Series at the N.Y. Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. She has performed at the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, Martha's Vineyard Chamber Music Festival, Yale Center for British Art, Mt. Auburn Concert Series and the Meeting House Chamber Music Festival. She is a strong promoter of American music and has premiered works by Leonardo Ciampa, Sharon Davis, Carson Cooman, Thomas Stumpf, William Moylan and Delvyn Case. Her recent collaborations include the world premieres of Dichterliebe in Four Seasons and Stations, an oratorio by Aleksandra Vrebalov with the R.I. Civic Orchestra and Chorale.

Ms. Danton has several solo recordings on the Albany Records and Newport Classic labels. She can also be heard as Jeanette MacDonald on the newly released recording of New England Light Opera's world premiere production of Yes, Yes Jeanette!. Her television credits include the PBS documentaries The Nobel Legacy, Apollo 13-To the Edge and Back, American Experiences: Stephen Foster and Mary Magdalen for Lifetime.
